How do I pay?
When a single purchase is made you must pay online using a valid credit card (MasterCard or Visa). When a purchasing multiple accounts at the same time, AISC can send you an invoice.

What languages is the course in?
The course is only available in English

What do I need to take the course?
A computer connected to a broadband internet connection. Two course texts are included when you register for the course: Detailing for Steel Construction, Second Edition and the Steel Construction Manual, Thirteenth Edition.

What software do I need?
None. There is no drawing required in this course, therefore applications such as Tekla Structures, SDS/2 or AutoCAD, etc. are not required

Is this an accredited course?
No. This course was developed by Dowco Consultants Ltd. in association with the AISC and under the guidance of the AISC Committee on Steel Detailing. All course administration, registration and delivery of texts is managed by the AISC. The online course, administration and instruction is managed by Dowco.

What do I get upon completing the course?
Upon completion of the online course material the AISC will recognize the student with a Completion Certificate. After taking the final exam the student will then be presented with either a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate based on the proficiency they have demonstrated.

Will I be taught Connection Design?
No. The course focuses on the basic fundamentals of detailing. It is designed to teach the student the essentials and theory behind becoming a "Steel Detailer". In teaching this we also introduce the student to the related mathematics to improve their understanding of the underlying design considerations. We demonstrate both ASD and LRFD design methods and require the student to complete the exercises using both calculation methods.

Can I share a single login?
No. The course is designed and presented in a linear fashion. The student's progress through the course is tightly managed and controlled. Testing is only conducted once as the student advances. Each time the student logs in they automatically resume learning where they left off.

How long do I get to take the course?
Depending upon the students prior steel detailing experience, there is up to 400 hours of instruction. The course is designed to be completed in 1 year, by spending 8 hours per week. The student is given 18-months to complete the course from the date of signup.

Are there course deadlines?
You have 18 months from date of signup to complete the course. All learning is done to the students own schedule, there are no deadlines for completion of assignments or sections, etc.

I've been in the industry for years, is the course good for me?
Many people who have been in the steel industry have taken the course and found the material to be beneficial.

How does the final exam work?
Upon completing the course, the administrator will find a proctor in your area and arrange for testing to take place at a time that suits you. The final exam takes 4 hours and is a paper-based, open book format. Students are tested on all course materials and asked to review drawings.

How is my course mark established?
All tests with the exception of the final exam are done online. Tests are marked automatically by the system. The student must obtain a 70% mark before they are allowed to proceed any further in the course. Your final mark for the course is obtained 40% from the core material, 25% from the related mathematics and 35% from the final examination

What happens when I get locked?
